      Tuesday 15 November 2011

Tuesday afternoons are always special for the choir but this afternoon was altogether something else.

The Perth Oratorio which has graced the Perth Music Scene for some thirty years. Faced with increasing costs and an aging membership, last year chose to finish on a high note with their traditional rendition of Handel’s Messiah for Christmas.

Having some funds still left in their money box, they chose to donate $2000 to the Spirit of the Streets and Mr Reg Atkins visited us to present a cheque to our musical director         Bernard Carney.

We thank  the members of the Perth Oratorio for their kindness and generosity and assure them the funds will be put to good use.

December is traditionally a busy time for most choirs and Spirit of the Streets is no exception.

We have done eight performances this month the final, being the Christmas day” Lunch in the Park” for Mission Australia .

A sit down meal with all the trimmings for 2000 of the less fortunate people in our community served with the assistance of 500 volunteers all providing a fantastic audience for the choir which was  labelled  “The stars of the show”.

What a privilege. This was truly a highlight and a fitting end to what has been a fantastic year for the choir.

We will now take a short break for rehearsals for January to re gather our strength before commencing our 2012 performance schedule although I understand there will be a picnic by the river and other  activities to keep the “family” of the Choir together  and occupied.

So, from the manager, a huge well done and thank you to the choir, our small band of volunteers, our indispensable musical director Bernard and all our supporters. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2012.

      Ken
