Review in the BIG ISSUE magazine regarding the Blue Gum Recreation Concert from Alexandra

3/11/2009

“The Streets to Angels concert which took place on the 23rd October 2009 in St Georges Cathedral was a huge success.

It was a lovely warm atmosphere and the Cathedral was full and the singing of the three choirs, The Spirit of the Streets, Perth Male Voice Choir and the Mercedes College Select Choir, produced a fantastic level of performance.

The sound they produced coupled with the natural acoustics of the Cathedral was just amazing.

I think the angels themselves joined in to help make the evening a wonderful evening. Although when I looked up into the rafters of Cathedral the roof I couldn’t see them, we could certainly hear them.

It was a wonderful, magical evening. Thank you to all those who took part.”

Dear Mr. Steele,

There does not appear to be any simple way to leave comments about the performances etc. on the website, Gerald, my friend and choir member, suggested that I contact you to give some feedback on last nights performance at St. Georges Cathedral which I attended.

My name is David, I have bipolar disorder, and other medical conditions, and was also a foster child, so I know how hard it can be just to be accepted, let alone understood by others ( even family members ). If all else fails it’s what we do that matters, not limiting ourselves by other peoples opinions !!!.

I thoroughly enjoyed the performances and was very impressed by the 3 choirs, especially the Spirit Of The Streets Choir who seemed every bit as professional as both of the others, they are a credit to themselves and all the support staff, and a great example to the wider community as a whole.

This clearly demonstrates that given the right chance, and any needed support, just having medical, or other socially disadvantaging issues, does not in any way have to limit you, your achievements, or your dreams.

It is people who socially disadvantage others either by lack of acceptance or understanding, that have the real problems.

Best wishes, David.

An Email message from the Cotton Town Chorus in Bolton UK.

Hi Ken and many thanks for sending me the link to your YouTube video

What a WONDERFUL organisation you have there Ken and the video goes to show what enormous enthusiasm there is within the group – both singers and volunteers. It’s so heart-warming to see the happiness it brings to everyone concerned ….. the movie gave me a lovely warm glow as I was watching it ….. Bernard is obviously a very talented guy who can relate so well to people of different abilities, and what you said in the video about creating not only a choir but a family really hit the nail on the head.

I don’t believe you need to hit dizzy heights in singing but you guys sure do excel when it comes to making people happy and making them feel part of the family which I guess is far more important than hitting the right notes.

May you continue to work wonders for all concerned by allowing them to express themselves in such a wonderful and worthwhile way and get such pleasure from doing so.

Let’s keep in touch – best wishes from Bolton UK

Mike Wayne
